Fireside will take care of the cleaning and insurance, so the family can just show up and enjoy!
The RV will be delivered and setup at a local campground.
Each franchise location will partner with local sponsors to provide meals and activities for the mom and her children.
The Grants did more than camp—they shared it. Their Facebook page, Glamping with the Grants, featured campground reviews, RV maintenance tips, modifications, and kid-friendly gear that made family travel easier. Their goal was simple: show families that adventure is possible, even with babies, dogs, chaos, and real life right beside it.
In 2023, they bought a Class C specifically to rent out so more families could join them on the road. It wasn’t about profit—it was about relationships with people. Friends. Community. Shared sunrise coffee and burnt marshmallows and the joys found in between.
Then came the unexpected medical event that changed everything. Sam spent 10 months hospitalized, battling through a season no young family imagines. Even there—hooked to machines, facing the unthinkable—he talked about camping. About unplugging. About getting his kids outdoors. When it became clear that time was limited, he told Ashley what mattered most:
Keep camping.
Keep the kids outside.
And keep the rental business going—help families make memories while they can.
Ashley promised she would.
Sam passed in May 2025, but his legacy didn’t.
It grew.
Today, Ashley and their children continue to build Fireside RV Rental – Cumberland, MD, honoring the man who loved nature, family, and the God who created it all.
Some stories spark quietly. Others ignite into something bigger, something that changes lives long after a person is gone. Project S.A.M. exists because Sam Grant’s story was one of those. His spirit of adventure, generosity, and unwavering love for his family inspired us to create an initiative that reflects the heart of who he was.
Sam Grant was the kind of man people knew they could count on. A paramedic and emergency manager by trade, he eventually stepped into the role of Director of Emergency Management for Garrett County, Maryland, leading with calm confidence through crisis after crisis. He served people for a living, but more importantly—he served them by nature.
He was also a man who loved Jesus deeply and stood in awe of the natural world God made. Mountains, rivers, quiet mornings under the trees with a cup of coffee—Sam saw the Creator’s fingerprints everywhere. Camping wasn’t just recreation for him. It was worship. It was wonder. It was the presence of God.
Sam and his wife, Ashley, bought an RV for their first anniversary in 2019 and dove headfirst into the lifestyle. They lived full-time on the road in different seasons, first with their dogs Oliver and Sheldon, and again in 2023 with their infant daughter Abigail. Later, their son William joined their family—just 8½ weeks before Sam fell ill. Sam passed away a few days after William’s first birthday, and before he could complete his number one bucket list trip: taking both kids camping across every National Park in America.
Each participating Fireside location will review the nominees and chose the winner for their location.
Winners will be announced by the local Fireside location the Mothers Day weekend of 2026.
The Project S.A.M. Family Getaway will take place on a weekend chosen in partnership with the winner + local Fireside
